Type the amount in the AMOUNT box, then choose the currency you are converting FROM. Each picker has a search box — type a code (USD) or a name (dollar, rupee) to find any of the 160+ currencies quickly.
Pick the currency to convert TO. The converted amount appears instantly in the black result box, along with the exchange rate and its inverse (for example, 1 USD = 0.92 EUR and 1 EUR = 1.087 USD).
Use the swap arrow to reverse the pair, tap Refresh to pull the latest published rates, and read the timestamp beneath the rate to see when they were last updated.
Check the 30-day trend line to see how the pair has moved recently, glance at the multi-currency row to see your amount in several majors at once, then Share the result or Embed the converter on your own site.
An exchange rate is simply the price of one currency in terms of another, and unlike a length or weight it is not fixed — it moves continuously as banks and traders buy and sell. This converter uses the mid-market rate (also called the interbank or reference rate): the midpoint between the buy and sell prices, and the fairest single number for a conversion. To convert between any two currencies, the rate is crossed through a common base: to change USD into EUR, divide by the USD-to-USD rate and multiply by the EUR-to-USD rate. The rates here are published reference rates, refreshed on business days from the European Central Bank and other sources — they are ideal for estimates and tracking trends, but they are not a live trading feed, and they are not the rate you actually receive: a bank, card or money-transfer service adds a margin (often 0.5–3%) plus any fixed fee, so your real cost is a little higher than the mid-market figure. When comparing providers, look at the total amount received after all fees, not just the headline rate. The 30-day trend line shows which way a pair has moved recently, which is useful for timing a transfer, but past movement is not a prediction. Currency codes follow the ISO 4217 standard — three letters, usually the two-letter country code plus the currency's initial (USD, GBP, JPY) — and this tool covers 160+ of them, from the majors to small-nation and pegged currencies.
An exchange rate is the price of one currency in terms of another. To convert, you multiply your amount by the rate: 100 USD at a rate of 0.92 EUR per USD is 92 EUR. This tool crosses every pair through the US dollar — dividing by the 'from' currency's USD rate and multiplying by the 'to' currency's USD rate — so any two of the 160+ currencies can be converted directly.
