Kilohertz to Hertz Converter

Convert kilohertz to hertz instantly. A kilohertz is 1,000 hertz, so to go from kilohertz (kHz) to hertz (Hz) you multiply by 1,000. For example, 44.1 kHz = 44,100 Hz (CD audio) and 5 kHz = 5,000 Hz. This converter defaults to kilohertz → hertz, shows the result live as you type, and — because it is built on our Mega F…

HOW TO USE

  1. 1

Enter the frequency in kilohertz (kHz) in the value box — the converter defaults to kilohertz → hertz.

  2. 2

Read the hertz (Hz) result instantly, or do it by hand: multiply the kilohertz by 1,000.

  3. 3

Use the equivalence line for reference, or tap ⇄ to convert hertz back to kilohertz.

ABOUT FREQUENCY UNITS

Frequency counts how often something repeats each second, and its SI unit is the hertz (Hz) — one cycle per second, named after Heinrich Hertz and once simply called “cycles per second.” The scale climbs by factors of a thousand: kilohertz (kHz) for audio, megahertz (MHz) for radio and older processors, gigahertz (GHz) for Wi-Fi and modern CPUs, and terahertz (THz) for light and advanced electronics. Rotational speed is the same idea applied to spinning things: revolutions per minute (rpm) for engines, motors and disks, where 1 Hz equals 60 rpm. In physics the angular frequency ω is measured in radians per second and relates to ordinary frequency by ω = 2πf, so 1 Hz is 2π ≈ 6.2832 rad/s; degrees per second is the same quantity in degrees. Media and everyday life add their own: frames per second (fps) for video and gaming, and beats per minute (BPM) for music tempo and heart rate, so 120 BPM is 2 Hz. One thing this converter does not include is the period — the time for a single cycle, in seconds — because it is the reciprocal of frequency (a 50 Hz supply has a 20-millisecond period), not a simple multiple. Every unit here is stored as its exact number of hertz, so any conversion is just the input turned into hertz and then into the unit you want.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Multiply the number of kilohertz by 1,000, since one kilohertz equals 1,000 hertz. For example, 8 kHz × 1,000 = 8,000 Hz.

  • Formula: Hz = kHz × 1,000.
  • One kHz = 1,000 Hz.
  • 8 kHz = 8,000 Hz.
  • To reverse it, divide hertz by 1,000.
