Kelvin to Fahrenheit Converter

Convert Kelvin to Fahrenheit instantly. This takes two steps because the scales differ in both degree size and zero point: first convert Kelvin to Celsius by subtracting 273.15, then convert to Fahrenheit. Put together, °F = (K − 273.15) × 9/5 + 32. For example, 273.15 K = 32 °F (freezing), 310.15 K = 98.6 °F (body tem…

HOW TO USE

  1. 1

Enter the temperature in Kelvin (K) in the value box — the converter defaults to Kelvin → Fahrenheit.

  2. 2

Read the Fahrenheit (°F) result instantly, or do it by hand: (K − 273.15) × 9/5, then add 32.

  3. 3

Check the exact formula shown beneath the result, or tap ⇄ to convert Fahrenheit back to Kelvin.

  4. 4

Need another scale? Pick Celsius, Rankine or a historical scale in the dropdown, then Share or Embed your conversion.

ABOUT TEMPERATURE SCALES

Temperature is unusual among conversions: scales differ not only in the size of a degree but also in where they put zero, so you can never convert one to another by multiplying alone — you always scale and then shift. Celsius sets water’s freezing point at 0 and boiling at 100; Fahrenheit puts them at 32 and 212; and Kelvin, the SI unit, starts at absolute zero (0 K = −273.15 °C = −459.67 °F) and uses no degree sign. Rankine is the absolute version of Fahrenheit, starting at the same zero as Kelvin but with Fahrenheit-sized degrees. The historical scales are still occasionally seen: Réaumur (0 to 80), Delisle (which runs backwards, 150 at freezing down to 0 at boiling), Newton (0 to 33) and Rømer (7.5 to 60). Two facts are worth remembering: absolute zero is the coldest anything can be, and −40° is the single point where Celsius and Fahrenheit read exactly the same. Oven “gas marks” are a separate cooking setting rather than a true scale (roughly gas mark = (°F − 250) ÷ 25), so they are not included here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Subtract 273.15 to get Celsius, then multiply by 9/5 and add 32: °F = (K − 273.15) × 9/5 + 32. For example, (373.15 − 273.15) × 9/5 = 180, plus 32 = 212 °F.

  • Formula: °F = (K − 273.15) × 9/5 + 32.
  • Convert to Celsius first, then to Fahrenheit.
  • 373.15 K = 212 °F; 273.15 K = 32 °F.
  • To reverse it: K = (°F − 32) × 5/9 + 273.15.
