Should I include the end date in the count?

It depends on what you are counting. The default excludes the end date, giving the gap between the two dates — the right choice for “how many days until” a deadline. If you are counting how many days something lasts, such as a hotel stay or an event that runs on both the first and last day, tick “include the end day” to add one and count both endpoints.

How many working days are between two dates?

The calculator splits the span into working days (Monday to Friday) and weekend days (Saturday and Sunday), and also shows how many of each individual weekday the span contains. This is handy for delivery windows, notice periods and project timelines. Public holidays are not deducted, because they vary by country and region, so the working-day figure is the maximum before any local holidays.

How do I count the days until, or since, a date?

For days until a future date, set the start date to today and the end date to the future date; the total is your countdown. For days since a past event, set the start date to the past date and the end date to today. Either way the calculator handles the direction — if you enter the dates the other way round, it simply shows the gap between them.

Does the calculator count leap days?

Yes. Every 29 February that falls within the span is counted, following the Gregorian leap-year rule: a year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, except century years, which must also be divisible by 400. That is why a span covering a leap year, such as 1 January 2024 to 1 January 2025, is 366 days rather than 365.

Why doesn’t the day count match the years-and-months view?

Because months are different lengths, a years-months-days breakdown will not equal a simple division of the day total. For example, a span might be “1 month and 3 days” but 34 days, since that month happened to have 31 days. Both describe the same gap: the day total is the raw count, while the years-months-days view follows the calendar. Use whichever fits how you are thinking about the span.
