Why does the converted time show a different day?

Time zones far to the east are hours ahead and far to the west are hours behind, so the same instant can fall on a different calendar day. When it is early evening in New York, it is already the next morning in Tokyo. The converter marks this with a “+1 day” or “−1 day” note next to the date, so you never mistake tomorrow morning for this morning.

Does it handle daylight saving time?

Yes. The converter uses the IANA time zone database through your browser, which knows each region’s daylight-saving rules and when they change. That means a city can be, say, five hours behind in summer and six hours behind in winter, and the result updates accordingly. It also handles regions that do not observe daylight saving at all, such as most of India and much of Asia.

What is UTC and how do offsets work?

UTC, Coordinated Universal Time, is the global reference from which every zone is measured. An offset like UTC+5:30 means that zone is five and a half hours ahead of UTC, while UTC−8 is eight hours behind. Adding a zone’s offset to UTC gives its local time, and the difference between two zones’ offsets is the time gap between them.

How do I find a good meeting time across time zones?

Add every participant’s city and look at the 24-hour strips: the light band is daytime (roughly 06:00–18:00) and the dark band is night. A good slot is one where every city’s marker sits in the light band. Because the rows move together as you change the source time, you can slide to a time and immediately see whether it lands in everyone’s working hours.

Why are some time zones offset by 30 or 45 minutes?

Not every zone is a whole number of hours from UTC. India uses a single nationwide offset of UTC+5:30, Nepal uses UTC+5:45, and parts of Australia use UTC+9:30. These half-hour and quarter-hour offsets are historical and political choices, often to give a country one unified time. The converter handles them exactly, so India correctly shows a 30-minute offset from its neighbours.
