HOW THE WORLD CLOCK WORKS

Every clock here shows the very same instant, re-expressed in each city’s own time zone using its offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The cards are ordered from west to east, so the times climb across the row and you can watch the day move around the planet. A light clock face means it is daytime there (roughly 06:00–18:00) and a dark face means night, which makes it easy to see who is awake. Daylight saving time is applied automatically from each region’s current rules, and the seconds tick live from your device’s clock.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A world clock displays the current time in several places at once. Each city is the same instant re-expressed in its own time zone, which is defined by an offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). This tool reads your device’s clock, converts it into each city’s local time using up-to-date offsets, and updates every second so the seconds tick in real time. You never have to add or subtract hours yourself.

  • Every clock shows the same moment in a different zone.
  • Local time = UTC plus each city’s current offset.
  • The display refreshes every second from your device clock.
  • Analog and digital readouts are shown for each city.

NOTES & REFERENCES

  • Times come from your device clock, re-expressed in each zone via the IANA time zone database, including daylight saving.
  • Cities are ordered by their current UTC offset, west to east.
  • Day and night faces use a simple 06:00–18:00 guide; real daylight length varies by latitude and season.
  • Offsets are shown relative to UTC and can shift by an hour when a region enters or leaves daylight saving.
