Check the substrate first. Adhered stone needs a sound, clean, load-bearing background — and on a framed wall it needs a weather-resistive barrier and lath behind it, not board alone.

Fix the corners first, working up from the bottom, alternating the long leg left and right so the joint pattern does not stack. Then fill the flat between them.

Open several boxes at once and blend from all of them as you go. Stone varies between batches, and laying box by box leaves visible patches of colour across the wall.

Corners are bought by the metre, not the square metre. The 4.80 linear m of corner here covers 0.732 of face with its return legs, so the flat order drops from 22.11 to 21.38 . Order the full net area as flat and you pay for that strip twice.

    Enter the wall length and height, then the number of external corners on that face. Corners are counted, not measured — the calculator works out the linear metres from the wall height.

    Deduct doors and windows at their true sizes. Reveals around openings often need cladding too; if yours do, add their area separately.

    Open product and waste to set the coverage per box from your actual product — it varies from about one to two and a half square metres for flat, and one and a half to three linear metres for corner.

    Read the two box counts. The flat figure already has the corner deduction taken off, so ordering both numbers as shown gives you the right total rather than an overlap.

On a small single wall the deduction is a fraction of a box and easy to ignore. On a building with eight corners at full height it is over nine square metres — six boxes of flat stone that would otherwise be delivered, paid for and left over.
