Tablespoons to Milliliters Converter

Convert tablespoons to milliliters instantly. A (metric) tablespoon is exactly 15 millilitres, so to go from tablespoons (tbsp) to milliliters (mL) you multiply by 15 — for example, 1 tbsp = 15 mL and 3 tbsp = 45 mL. This converter defaults to tablespoons → millilitres, shows the result live as you type, gives a full t…

HOW TO USE

  1. 1

Enter the number of tablespoons (tbsp) in the value box — the converter defaults to tablespoons → millilitres.

  2. 2

Read the millilitre (mL) result instantly, or do it by hand: multiply the tablespoons by 15.

  3. 3

Use the tablespoons-to-mL table below for common values, or tap ⇄ to convert millilitres back to tablespoons.

ABOUT VOLUME UNITS

Volume is measured against the cubic metre, the SI derived unit. Because volume is length cubed, each metric step is a thousandfold jump: one cubic metre is 1,000 litres and 1,000,000 millilitres. The litre itself is one cubic decimetre, and a millilitre is exactly one cubic centimetre. The biggest trap is the gallon: a US gallon is 3.785 litres, but an imperial (UK) gallon is 4.546 litres — about 20% larger — and the same gap runs through pints and fluid ounces. On top of that, the US keeps separate liquid and dry measures, so a US dry pint is larger than a US liquid pint. Cooking adds its own quirks: a US cup is 236.6 mL, a metric cup is 250 mL, and an Australian tablespoon is 20 mL rather than the usual 15 mL. This tool also covers cubic imperial units (cubic inch, foot, yard) and specialty measures — the oil barrel (42 US gallons), the acre-foot used in water management, and the cord and board foot used for timber. Every unit is stored as its exact number of cubic metres, so any conversion is just the input turned into cubic metres and then into the target unit.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Multiply the number of tablespoons by 15. Because a metric tablespoon is exactly 15 millilitres, multiplying by 15 gives the millilitre value. For example, 4 tbsp × 15 = 60 mL. The converter does this instantly for any value.

  • Formula: milliliters = tablespoons × 15.
  • A metric tablespoon is exactly 15 mL.
  • 4 tbsp = 60 mL; 2 tbsp = 30 mL.
  • To reverse it, divide millilitres by 15.
