Eid al-Fitr falls on the 1st of Shawwal — the day after the month of Ramadan ends — on the Islamic lunar calendar. Because that cannot be worked out with a simple formula, and the exact day is confirmed by sighting the crescent moon, this calculator uses the estimated Umm al-Qura dates and measures the exact time between right now and midnight at the start of that day.
