Does the countdown update live?

Yes. It refreshes every second, so the seconds ring sweeps continuously and the numbers roll over on their own — you do not need to reload the page. The days figure drops by one at midnight before your event, the hours ring completes once a day, the minutes ring once an hour, and the seconds ring once a minute.

What happens when the event arrives or passes?

As the target approaches, the countdown falls to zero. On the day itself it shows a small celebration note, and once the moment has passed the display flips to “time since”, counting up how long ago the event happened. That makes the same tool useful both for looking forward to something and for tracking how long ago it took place.

Can I count down to a holiday like Christmas or New Year?

Yes — tap a preset for New Year, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Christmas or New Year’s Eve and the date is set to the next time that day comes around. If this year’s date has already passed, the preset jumps to next year automatically, so you are always counting down to the upcoming occurrence rather than one in the past.

How is the remaining time split into days, hours, minutes and seconds?

The calculator takes the exact gap between now and your event and divides it into whole days first, then the leftover hours, then minutes, then seconds. So “2 days, 3 hours, 20 minutes and 15 seconds” means just over two full days remain. The rings show each leftover unit as a fraction of its maximum — hours out of 24, minutes and seconds out of 60.

How do I count down to an event in another time zone?

The countdown runs on your own device’s clock, so enter the event’s date and time as it will be where you are. If a launch is at 9 a.m. in New York and you are in London, enter 2 p.m. — the London equivalent.
